Family Law
At Cohen & Cohen, P.C., we handle a range of issues within family law, or otherwise known as Domestic Relations. We work in pre and post dissolution issues, including child support modification, custody dispute (i.e., Allocation of Parenting Time and Parental Responsibilities), maintenance, property division, and grandparent visitation. At Cohen & Cohen, P.C., we believe it is important to protect your family and children's best interests. Moreover, Colorado had taken great care in devising a domestic statutory system to make domestic relation disputes as equitable as possible. The Colorado Domestic Code is extensive and provides you with rights you may not be aware you have. There will be few times in your life as stressful or with such lasting consequences as a Domestic Relations dispute. At Cohen & Cohen, P.C., we will protect your rights by looking after you and your children's best interests. It is important to ensure that you are not taken advantage of, or pushed into a position you know is not right. You have a responsibility to yourself and your children to ensure that everyone is protected. The bottom line is that we protect our clients, and their children, with firm and fair legal representation. We make sure to focus on the short, mid, and long term goals in any family law matter to make sure our client's best interests are met. We provide as much or as little information as the client desires and we are always available to answer questions as they arise. Nowhere does our commitment to excellence and quality legal representation matter more than in a domestic issue.
The basic process is as follows. We will first meet for an initial consultation which we will enable us to assess your specific situation and goals. We will analyze the facts, apply the facts to the law, gather information from you to determine what your goals are, provide as much information as you require and answer your questions, and then make recommendations on how to proceed. Oftentimes the facts and circumstances change throughout the process so we understand that we must remain flexible and be able to adapt the strategy as new events or issues arise. After our initial meeting the next steps depend on the stage of the case you are in. If it is brand new then you may or may not have time and we will either have to file an emergency pleading or we can prepare in advance. Depending on the situation sometimes pre-divorce planning is appropriate. Regardless of when we enter, we will always ensure our advice is objective and designed with your best interests in mind. Also, as you may have discovered we are a multi-practice firm and because of this our domestic relations side is enhanced. Every attorney at Cohen & Cohen, P.C., is available for advice and guidance to our clients. For example, bankruptcy and divorce oftentimes go hand in hand. Sometimes bankruptcy is necessary before a divorce, after a divorce, or the soon to be ex-spouse is going to file and leave the other with all the debt. Regardless of the situation our bankruptcy and divorce attorneys will meet to determine the best strategy to protect our clients.
